How ReproClip works

ReproClip records a bug once: a video or screenshot of the page, with its console logs, network requests, errors, clicks and browser details. You get one link to paste into your tracker or chat.

Install and connect

  1. Add ReproClip to Chrome, then pin it from the puzzle icon in the toolbar so it is one click away.
  2. Click the ReproClip icon, then Connect account. Sign in with Google or GitHub; the extension connects by itself.
  3. Pages that were already open before you installed or updated ReproClip need a reload before their logs can be captured. The popup tells you when, with a Reload page button.

To disconnect, use the gear menu in the popup, or revoke the extension from Settings → Extension tokens in the web app.

Record a bug

  1. Open the page with the bug and click the ReproClip icon.
  2. Choose Current tab, or Your screen to pick a window or the whole screen in Chrome's dialog.
  3. Turn on Microphone if you want to talk through the bug. The first time, Chrome asks for permission in a separate tab.
  4. Press Record and reproduce the bug.
  5. Stop from the floating pill at the bottom of the page, by clicking the ReproClip icon, or with Alt+Shift+S. The pill also mutes the microphone and can be dragged out of the way.
The popup, and the pill that stays on the page while you record.

The logs from the two minutes before you pressed Record are included, so the error that made you start recording is not lost. Only the tab you are looking at keeps logs, so background tabs use no memory. With Your screen, logs come from whichever Chrome tab is in front while you record.

Take a screenshot

Choose Screenshot in the popup, then Visible area or Select area. The screenshot carries the page's logs from the last two minutes. Before saving you can add arrows, boxes, text and blur; blur hides what is under it in the saved image.

Point at the problem, and blur what others should not see.

Review and save

After you stop, a preview opens. Nothing has been uploaded yet. Add a title and a description, choose the workspace, and choose who can open the link: Workspace only (members sign in) or Anyone with the link. Press Save & copy link to upload, copy the link and open the report, or Discard: discarded captures do not count toward your quota.

Nothing is uploaded until you save.

If you close the preview before touching it, the capture waits under Unsaved in the popup for a day.

Read a report

A report: the video, and the request that failed at that moment.
  • Info: page URL, browser, OS, window and screen size, language and timezone.
  • Console: logs and JavaScript errors with stack traces. Errors are marked on the video timeline.
  • Network: every request with method, status, timing, headers and bodies, WebSocket connections, and static resources like scripts and images behind a filter. Failed requests stand out.
  • Steps: clicks, typing and navigation as numbered steps. Copy steps copies them as text for a ticket.

The logs follow the video as it plays; click an entry to jump the video to that moment. Entries from before Record show a negative time.

What is recorded, and what is not

  • Passwords, tokens, cookies, API keys and card numbers are replaced with [REDACTED] in your browser, before anything is uploaded.
  • What you type into fields is never recorded, only that a field was filled.
  • Nothing leaves your browser until you save.
  • Owners and admins can add their own rules in Settings → Redaction: header names, field names and patterns.

Developers can mark elements in their own app:

  • data-reproclip-mask: the element's text is masked in recorded clicks.
  • data-reproclip-block: nothing is recorded from the element.

The video shows what is on screen. Close or hide anything private before you record. More in the privacy policy.

Workspaces and members

Recordings belong to a workspace. Invite your team from Settings → Members; every plan has unlimited members. Switch the extension's workspace from the menu at the top of the popup.

Limits

  • Recordings are up to 5 minutes.
  • Paid plans keep recordings until you delete them, up to the plan's storage. When it is full, new videos and screenshots can't be saved to the workspace until you delete old recordings or upgrade.
  • On Free, videos and screenshots are deleted 60 days after they are made; the logs and the report page stay for 12 months. When a paid plan ends, the same 60 days start that day.
  • Monthly videos, screenshots and storage depend on the plan; see pricing.
  • Logs are captured from the page itself, not from iframes on other domains or from service workers.

Troubleshooting

The report has a video but no logs

The page was open before ReproClip was installed or updated. Reload it and record again. Chrome pages (chrome://) and the Chrome Web Store never have logs.

The microphone does not work

Click the icon at the left of the address bar on the permission tab, set Microphone to Allow, then try again. Also check that the system lets Chrome use the microphone.

The popup says "Update required"

Press Update now. If Chrome has no update yet, try again in a few minutes. Unsaved captures are kept.
